Grief is love with no place to go

Today would have been my cousin and best friend Sherry’s 39th birthday. It’s strange how often I find myself thinking about what she might have been–who she would have become. Instead, she’s forever frozen in my mind at 30.

When I came across this passage recently, the last line sat on my heart like a ton of bricks:

“Grief is love with no place to go.”

I miss her infectious laugh, her sense of adventure, her spontaneity, and her spirit. But most of all, I value the grief I continue to sit with even now. It reminds me how much I still love her, even if it has no place to go.
