This week, the girls dive right in.

In trying to talk about why we can’t have nice things, Kim and Kirsta go on a tangent about The Parent Trap and the merits of Meredith Blake.  All because of recent comments that LiLo made about women speaking out as part of the #Metoo movement. “If it happens at that moment, you discuss it at that moment. You make it a real thing by making it a police report,” she said.

Actually, I’m Hallie, Dad.

I mean, actually, a police report isn’t what makes rape “real”.

One question that Kim gets a lot surrounds sharing her story publicly.  As a part of sharing her story publicly, she also deals with a lot of outside opinions.  Her experiences led her to compile some thoughts on sharing your story publicly. This will be an ongoing conversation as there are many factors, however, absolutely zero listeners will be surprised that Brene Brown’s work was referenced as an initial framework on this topic.

You can find them in Rising Strong  https://www.amazon.com/Rising-Strong-Ability-Transforms-Parent/dp/081298580X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1534267058&sr=8-1&keywords=rising+strong

As an example of someone sharing their story instantly, Kim references this woman who was recently attacked in Denver:

While there are some issues with sex offender registries, K&K celebrate that convicted rapist who can swim, Brock Turner, lost his appeal and will still be required to register for life as a sex offender.

The best quote comes from Justice Franklin D. Elia in response to the story that the defense attorney created.  He said,

“I absolutely don’t understand what you are talking about.”

Kimberly will be speaking at the annual SAVA Soiree in Northern Colorado in September.  Check out their work! https://savacenter.org/event/sava-soiree-2019/
