fru·i·tion

/fro͞oˈiSHən/

noun

noun: fruition; plural noun: fruitions

1. the point at which a plan or project is realized.

My 2023 word of the year is “fruition”

In retrospect, I’ve been quiet in the last couple of years.

At first, it wasn’t really a choice. I figured I’d start creating and posting more once things “got back to normal” or “slowed down”… (insert narrator’s knowing chuckle here)

I haven’t been publicizing nearly as much content, writing, or my day-to-day suchness. Some of it was because life was just far too hectic. Other times, because it felt far too heavy.

But as I kept plugging away at these seemingly impossible tasks—some with no real end in sight—I felt my creativity and motivations shift. The immediate gratification from social media no longer seemed as important. It became second nature to say “no”. I took my own advice—I asked for help when I needed and leaned on the people in my life who mean the most. I was present more often. I picked up my camera again. I rediscovered audiobooks and puzzles. I laughed until I cried with family and friends. I started focusing on my BIG goals instead of what everyone else wanted.

And most importantly, I remembered my purpose for doing all of this in the first place: “If I can just help one person, this will all be worth it”.

That timeless statement I declared to my hometown reporter, moments after my attacker’s trial ended with his conviction, is truer today than it ever has been before. I’ve clung to the belief that all these tears, triumphs, heart, and soul I’ve poured into every aspect of my life would pay off somehow, at the right time, when it was needed most.

Well friends, 2023 is here. And now is the time.

I hope you’ll stay tuned–because I’m certainly proud of what’s finally coming to fruition–and I think you will be too.
