Kimberly Corban speaks to media during Denver press conference and the start by believing campaign for sexual assault awareness monthTo kick off sexual assault awareness month and the City of Denver’s proclamation to make April 5th “Start by Believing Day” I joined the Denver Police Department and other local advocacy agencies for a press conference. I was asked to share my story with outlets to help explain why SBB is such an important campaign. One of those was the City and County of Denver for part of their series “Elevating Denver”. Watch the feature video they put together below:

Warning: In this story the subject of sexual assault is discussed. Viewer discretion is advised. Kimberly Corban, a survivor of sexual assault and now advocate for survivors, takes time to discuss the “Start by Believing” campaign. A program that is celebrated in April but continues year round. The Denver Police Department is committed to believing victims of sexual assault. If someone is trusting you with their story, then we need to become better listeners, and more supportive of victims. There are services, organizations, and programs set up to help become a more supportive force for someone in need of help.
